Internet

It took a day with out the internet for me to realize how addicted to it I am.

Quote 001

"Don't be too harsh to these poems until they're typed. I always think typescript lends some sort of certainty: at least, if the things are bad then, they appear to be bad with conviction." - Dylan Thomas

Your capitalist garbage is my salvation

A girl got an iPod for christmas. Or she thought she did. Instead of an iPod she got a weird letter.

Can you imagine being all excited to get an iPod, opening up the box and finding some books and a note? Personally, I'd be excited, I love books and I would have thought it may have been part of an ARG, but who knows. I just think it's some funny news.

Putin a God?

There's a Religious sect in Russia that worships Putin and claim he is "The Chosen one" as well as being both the Apostle Paul and King Solomon in previous lives.

"...when Yeltsin was naming him as his successor. My soul exploded with joy! 'An ubermensch! God himself has chosen him!' I cried."

Man I don't know about you, but I'm glad this sort of thing doesn't happen too often in the States. If someone tried to tell me Bush was "The Chosen one" I'd be out of here and over in Scotland quicker than you can say "Fall of Humanity".

Flight

I’ve been interested in the graphic novels Flight for a little while now, I haven’t bought them because they’re a bit pricy for a college student, but I got volumes 1-4 for Christmas and promptly read them all Christmas day.

These are fantastic. I recommend them for anyone, regardless of if you’re into the Graphic Novel sort of thing (my mom thoroughly enjoyed them and she isn’t exactly “in” with the younger generation). There’s no real underlying theme or style (which I like) and most, if not all, of the art is beautifully drawn. To quote one artist and critic “"it hurts my hands when I look at it".

I love the stories, some have no dialogue what-so-ever but the story couldn’t be told with words, and best of all they make you think. One saga is about a fox like creature and his adventures (and misadventures). Another shows an Egyptian cat and it’s various exploits, along with a mystic fortuneteller reading humorous omens involving the cat. The stories evoke an incredible sense of emotion; in one story about a floating girl I nearly started crying. Then others make you laugh out loud, and some make you think.

Really take a look at this series, Flight Volume 5 comes out July 2008, and I’ll be pre-ordering it.

Good singer

This guy sings "A Whole New World" absolutely fantastically. It's a bit creepy though.

Kinda fun game

New game I found while browsing the internet, called Naturalchemist. It's pretty fun.

Smell my Stinky feet.

I constantly lose and regain faith in humanity...this is an instance of the weird, where it doesn't really change my feelings for or against humanity. Apparently this guy is going to court for making weird phone calls, from annoying to threats.

People are weird.

Kosher

So, I was bored and looking around the net. Found a magazine devoted to meat. Meatpaper. Not for the best marinades, but a Mac World meets Poultry sort of thing (no pun intended). I read one of the articles about a new definition of Kosher, and it was very well written.

So, basically PETA caused trouble, and exposed a cruel kosher slaughterhouse. This sparked a huge debate a few years later about the definition of Halakhah. More specifically, should the treatment of workers count in whether or not food is Kosher? From what I’ve read in the article, it sounds like yes, it should, however the biggest factor preventing it from becoming a part of Halakhah is cost.

Now this might be the “Atheist Devil” inside me, but coming from Jews? They’re pretty much the religious world’s whipping boy (no offense), and are now holding cost above religious principle. That’s like being a woman, fighting for the right to vote, being subject to rape and genocide because of the want to vote, then not voting. I mean, yes, this isn’t what the whole religion is about, but from what I know about Judaism this is what they see sets them apart the most, they can’t share a meal with others because it might not be Kosher. (Well, that and the whole Jesus thing, but we’re talking about food, not Prophets).

Maybe it’s because I’m not religious that I can’t seem to understand why this wasn’t made part of Halakhah a long time ago. I can see people being worried that this would carry on to other things, like clothing made in sweatshops, but is that a bad thing? I know the whole idea of making money revolves around cheap labor (unless you’re Gucci) but in this article Safran Fore is quoted saying,

To be Jewish is to strive to make the world less cruel and more just. Not only for oneself, and not only for one’s people, but for everyone.

Well, then being Jewish should relate to the fair-trade market? Maybe I’m making bad connections or maybe I’m under informed, but it seems to me that these laws should be looked at. I don’t like going half-assed into something I voluntarily do, I don’t see why anyone else would want to. So, I guess it all comes down to whither or not they should change that “strive to make the world less cruel and more just” to “ought to make the world less cruel and more just.”

Now I'm not bashing Judaism. It's just my own opinion, agree with it or disagree with it, that's all alright.

Fell

I've been getting into a new comic series by Warren Ellis called Fell. It's an experiment by Ellis to make an affordable comic by cutting the number of pages printed. Considering it has less pages, Fell is amazing, beautifully written and drawn. All for $1.99. It has a morbid sense of humor that underlines the gloom of the noir city it's based in. I recommend picking up a copy, it's worth a read. The first eight or nine comics are out in paperback form, the book's called Fell, Feral City.

You can read Issue #1 online here.

DotA!

Swedish Techno about Warcraft III. Does life get any sweeter?

This guy's two years older than me and already he has a #1 hit in Europe. And the song's damned catchy too, it's hard to find another annoying song to get stuck in your head so you aren't humming the lyrics all day (I'd sing them but I don't know Swedish).

SNOW PLOWING TRAINS!

Alright, I'm sure this is much cooler to me than it is to anyone else...but it's post worthy.

My City!

Looks like my evil overlord days are just beginning! Behold! The city of Ketaws! It's in the works, but hopefully it'll grow...it better grow...

It's an interesting idea, it has some advertisement, which is how the site probably gets its money.

The Dark Knight Trailer

The trailer's finally out, incase you missed it it's here

I really like Heath Ledger as Joker, I think he'll knock Jack out of the water (not that it would be hard given the...quality of the old Batman.)

Never thought he'd be so creepy though.

Too good to pass up.

Don’t for one second feel that you are less feminine or less sexy because you aren’t a C cup or above. Sure, guys like boobs. But they like all boobs. They feel lucky that boobs even exist. There isn’t a boob he’s met that he hasn’t liked.

From my good friend over at I Should Write This Down. She's right ya know, we do feel lucky that boobs even exist.

I'm enjoying this

GAH! the titles keep freaking out!

This will be interesting.

SO, premise...this is where I'll post just about anything. Quotes, random thing's I've heard, rants, raves, Youtube movies, ect.
